Explorers-in-Residence
CELEBRATING THE STORYTELLERS AND EXPLORERS SHAPING HOW WE SEE OUR WORLD
Areas of focus:
Exploration & Conservation

At the heart of Kensington and its clients is a shared belief in exploration: a deep curiosity about our world and a commitment to understanding it more fully. This spirit led to the creation of the Explorers-in-Residence program, an initiative supported by Kensington that elevates storytellers, advocates, and explorers whose work uncovers unseen narratives and brings critical global issues into clearer view.
This year, we welcomed a new Explorer-in-Residence: Oliver Steeds OBE, Director of Ocean Census. A leading figure in ocean exploration and conservation, Oliver bridges science and storytelling to reveal the urgent challenges facing our oceans. In 2025, he was appointed to the Council of the Royal Geographical Society with a focus on Expeditions and Fieldwork and delivered opening remarks at the Rise for the World Summit at Rhodes House in Oxford, sharing his insights on the qualities of an explorer.
Sofie Rørdam, a Danish filmmaker and adventurer, continued to gain global recognition for her documentary Walls – Akinni Inuk, which premiered at Hot Docs 2025, won the NORDIC:DOX Award at CPH:DOX, and was selected as Greenland’s submission for the 2026 Academy Awards. Her film has evolved into a deeply human portrait of friendship, resilience, and the complexities of Greenland’s justice system.
Mikael Strandberg spent the past year advancing expeditions that inspire future explorers, including a two-month journey through Kyrgyzstan by foot and horse with his two daughters. His film No Map For Growing Up moved into post-production.
Giles Duley MBE continued his tireless advocacy, documenting the lasting impacts of war and sharing stories that center humanity, connection, and hope. His work spanned global stages—from UN meetings to conferences in Rome, Lausanne, and London—alongside ongoing reporting in Ukraine and Lebanon.
