Mara West Foundation
EXPANDING ACCESS TO QUALITY EDUCATION IN KENYA

Areas of focus:
Poverty Alleviation, Community & Culture

Mara West Foundation creates opportunities for young learners in Kenya's Masai Mara, ensuring students have the tools and spaces they need to thrive. By investing in education infrastructure and essential resources, the Foundation helps shape brighter futures for hundreds of children and their communities.
This year, Kensington contributed $180,000, bringing total support to $1.67 million. Our funding focused on developing a new Middle School to serve students in grades 7 through 9. The facility includes three classrooms, a teacher's room, a laboratory, and a bathroom, addressing the growing student population and new educational standards in Kenya.
Construction is now underway on a dedicated science lab scheduled to open early 2026, creating new pathways for students to explore medicine and healthcare. Work has also begun on a new computer lab and library, set to open next year, which will expand access to essential technology and digital learning resources.
These improvements build on earlier enhancements made possible through Kensington client donations, including a rainwater catchment system that now provides 100,000 liters of clean water for students and teachers. The impact of these projects is already deeply felt. Principal Teresia shared that the new rainwater catchment system, “created the biggest difference in the quality of everyday life for students and teachers,” transforming daily routines and improving well-being across the school. The new science lab ensures students can continue studying this core subject and pursue future careers in medicine and healthcare, while the forthcoming computer lab and library will give girls access to the digital tools and resources required to thrive in an evolving workforce.
